We must codify the right to bodily autonomy that was established in Roe v. Wade by passing the Women's Health Protection Act. While the right to choose is a critical component of reproductive freedom, other issues affect our ability to make educated decisions about our own bodies. We must further guarantee that Americans receive age-appropriate, science-based reproductive education, experience menstrual equity and justice, and are provided comprehensive women's healthcare services.
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
It is alarming to see politicians suggest that we should eliminate or cut benefits for Social Security, especially because this state is home to so many of our nation's seniors. We need to ensure that the fund is secure and solvent for current and future beneficiaries. We shouldn't be borrowing from the trust fund. We need to ensure that basic benefits are stable, cutting benefits is not an option.

Yes, I strongly favor regulating indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions. Through indirect campaign contributions or so called ?independent expenditures? the wealthy are able to bypass campaign finance law and advance their own personal interests at the expense of the public good. As such, I support overturning Citizens United v. FEC which permits corporations to exercise an unreasonable and extreme influence over our democracy.

No, I do not support protecting government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct. On numerous occasions, law enforcement officers who have engaged in obvious misconduct have been unreasonably shielded from the consequences of their actions by qualified immunity. To ensure that our communities are safe and police officers who abuse the public trust are held accountable, we must end qualified immunity.

No, I oppose spending more taxpayer dollars on the military. Over the last several decades, our military budget has become severely bloated with unnecessary spending that does not serve the national interests of the United States. As a member of Congress, I will work to hold the Department of Defense accountable for all its spending by insisting upon a comprehensive audit conducted by independent experts. Instead of expending federal resources on unnecessary and wasteful military projects, we should be investing in the critical needs of the American people.

With that said, we need a robust monitoring operation within the federal government to ensure that these dollars are not siphoned off for illicit purposes or are not in some other way abused by private individuals. We should prosecute to the fullest extent of the law individuals who violate the public trust by misusing taxpayer dollars.

Yes, I favor requiring states to adopt federal education standards to ensure that all American children receive high-quality educational opportunities regardless of where they live. Federal education standards should be determined by education policy experts rather than by politicians who are not in many cases unqualified to design curricula. American children deserve a federal government willing to stand up for their right to an education that will prepare them to live meaningful and productive adult lives.

EPA will damage our efforts, we must explore workarounds to ensure that future generations do not suffer the consequences of our misguided environmental and economic policies. With that said, we should seriously consider reforming the Supreme Court to prevent a handful of unelected judges from stopping common-sense measures to combat the climate crisis.

Gun violence is a profoundly American problem. Gun violence now takes the lives of more of our nation?s children than car accidents. We are no longer safe going to school, shopping for groceries, enjoying a movie or even visiting a house of worship. These daily incidents of gun violence and mass shootings are largely preventable through policy intervention. This dark reality compels us to act against the epidemic of gun violence - every moment we wait, another life is stolen from us. The American people strongly support enacting common-sense gun-safety legislation to save lives.

Even after the pandemic ends, American workers deserve to have the peace of mind and financial security provided by these benefits.

No, I am opposed to forcing immigrants to return to their country of origin before becoming eligible for citizenship. As a beacon of hope and opportunity to the world, the United States cannot ignore the plight of immigrants desperate to make better lives for themselves and their families. Immigrants are human beings and our response to them needs to be filled with dignity and compassion.

Human rights abuses demand a response from us, but not always a military one. The United States must engage with international problems without defaulting to deploying our military. When our troops are deployed, it must be with short-term goals and a clear exit strategy. As Colin Powell said, "easy to get into war, hard to get out."

No, I do not generally support removing barriers to international trade though the particular factors of a case will determine my position. I believe that our international system of ?free-trade? has not proven effective at benefiting the global community as advocates had claimed it would. Instead, eliminating barriers to trade within our current system has made the American people more susceptible to the whims of international conglomerates and has allowed corporations to even more ruthlessly exploit impoverished people throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
While there are numerous issues confronting our nation, I will focus upon expanding access to affordable healthcare and securing our democracy for future generations. To improve healthcare coverage, we must expand Medicare to cover more Americans, extend Medicaid to millions of uninsured working-class families, and protect reproductive freedom from assault. We can raise dramatically more revenue for Medicare by allowing the program to negotiate drug prices with the pharmaceutical industry. To defend our democracy, we must crack down on fraudulent electoral slates, ensure voters of color have equitable representation in Congress, and expand Americans? access to the ballot.
